How to Install Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox in Kali Linux? Kali Linux is a Debian-derived Linux distribution designed for digital forensics and penetration testing. It is maintained and funded by Offensive Security Ltd. Mati Aharoni, Devon Kearns and Raphaël Hertzog are the core developers.

Kali Linux has a dedicated project set aside for compatibility and porting to specific Android devices, called Kali Linux NetHunter. It is the first Open Source Android penetration testing platform for Nexus devices, created as a joint effort between the Kali community member “BinkyBear” and Offensive Security. It supports Wireless 802.11 frame injection, one-click MANA Evil Access Point setups, HID keyboard (Teensy like attacks), as well as Bad USB MITM attacks.

Kali Linux comes with Iceweasel Browser, redistribution of Mozilla Firefox. Firefox is provided by Mozilla whereas Iceweasel is provided by Debian. There is no difference in both browsers. It is basically just a different name due to trademark issues. Debian’s Iceweasel, Icedove, Iceowl, and Iceape were respectively based on Mozilla’s Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird, and SeaMonkey. The rebranded products still used some Internet-based services from Mozilla, including the Mozilla plugin finder service, and Mozilla add-ons and their update notifications.

Remove Iceweasel from Kali Linux

This is not compulsory steps. You can even use Iceweasel alongside with Mozilla Firefox. But, you want to reduce your system space then I would recommend that you should remove it. To do so, open up terminal and use below command to remove Iceweasel.

apt-get remove iceweasel

Install Mozilla Firefox in Kali Linux

#1: To install Mozilla Firefox in Kali Linux, initially, we need all necessary files for Firefox. To get those, use below command in terminal.

echo -e “\ndeb http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt all main” | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list > /dev/null

#2: Kali does not connect to the Ubuntu repository by default, so use below command adds secure gpg keys for the Ubuntu repository.

apt-key adv –recv-keys –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com C1289A29

#3: Now, we need to update all repositories in our system

apt-get remove update

#4: Finally, use below command to install Mozilla Firefox in Kali Linux

apt-get install firefox-mozilla-build

Mozilla Firefox will be listed in Internet directory.

Install Google Chrome in Kali Linux

If you search on internet on installing Google Chrome in Kali Linux then various methods can be found, but all those methods isn’t working for everyone. Some methods is not even compatible with Kali Linux and user end up breaking OS. Here, I will show you the correct and universal method for installing Google Chrome in Kali Linux. To do so, firstly, we need to download Google Chrome Deb file for Linux.

#1: Download Google Chrome for Debian/Ubuntu.

Download Google Chrome

#2: Drag Deb file to Desktop and open up terminal

#3: Use below command to select desktop for operations

$ cd Desktop

#4: To list the package(s) on desktop, use below command.

$ ls

#5: Now, Google Chrome’s package will be seen in terminal. Copy it.

In my system, google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb is the package and I will use it in below command. Use below commands according to your package name.

#6: Type below command to install Google Chrome.

$ sudo dpkg -i google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb

#7: Type password for your Kali machine

#8: To update Google Chrome package, use below command.

$ sudo apt-get install -f

#9: Type Y in terminal and press enter when it will ask.

#10: Now, type below final command and press enter.

$ sudo nano 'opt/google/chrome/google-chrome'

Google Chrome will be listed in Internet directory.
